Why keep the T.V on the down low?

20150808_191453.jpgI may be known for a number of reasons, but its safe to say watching lots of television is not one of them. I’m not the only one out there that tries to moderate their T.V intake as many have reasons why they feel that thier focus should be on other activities both career wise and recreational. If you are considering a life of less television here are some good reasons as to why it may be beneficial.

Taking away from people around you The world has many great people in it. By overwatching the telly you are limiting your chances of meeting them, and possibly making new friendships. While those on the screen might be great characters why not forge some experiences of your own with real people. Even the introverts among us can focus on our few closer friends a bit more.

Negative F.M So some programmes are worse at this than others. In particular the soaps and the News broadcasts. The soaps have declined over the years to the point that the “negative plots” have increased and since when did you find a news piece that was positive. While they do exist I’m sure you had to stop and think for a few moments.

Overeating Ever watched something and just got restless from all the passive sitting and then gone to get something to eat to find that before you know it you’ve binged?  Don’t worry I won’t judge as we all have (including yours truly). There are many studies which link television over use with binge eating.

Money The amount of money spent on not only the box itself but TV related paraphernalia is quite high. Many households actually have more TV’s then people and just imagine all the scart leads and miscellany required. Also have you ever rented a DVD to find you didn’t watch it before the return date. I’m sure we all have done it once in our lives. Wow that’s a lot of dough.

Some of us are innately “practical people” I’d often times rather sing (albeit usually in other languages). I’ve found a meeting of board gamers which is a good alternative “indoorsy” activity. Some of us truly are people who prefer to “do” even in leisure time.

Being with nature Isn’t mother nature wonderful? By putting down the remote you will get more chance of seeing different areas of our lovely planet. Even cities and built up areas can have their beauty.

Unrealistic expectations are created In both adverts and the programmes themselves the people are subtly un-natural. I say subtly as they don’t look un-natural per se but how many people do you see that look like these actors on your local high street. All the actors are made up by make up artists (yes even the men) which gives them a look superior to that of the nicest looking man or woman on the street. No wonder our teens have self-confidence issues.

Time Ever caught yourself in that spiral where you’d like to stop watching but you just can’t bring yourself to, and before you know it you’ve watched an extra hour. Once again I’m sure we all have. It’s believed that the average American watches around 34 hours a week. Some of those hours could be better spent on relationships with people or something you’ve really wanted to do.

Advertising is big business. The TV could be playing a role in purchases you neither truly wanted or needed. Adverts are made in such a way that they can tap into your subconscious mind and at least influence your purchasing decisions. It’s no secret that Advertisers will use every trick of human psychology out there in order to make you feel you need that purchase.

Is it always truly relaxing? We have all found ourselves watching something we barely care about. Sometimes we do is as we feel there’s “nothing better to do” and other times to procrastinate, but in those situations we feel neither relaxed nor entertained.

Creativity Have a lot of creative energy? or simply have a desire to be creative just for fun? More time spent consuming is less spent creating. Whether its drawing, paper mache, poetry or music if you have a passion for creativity then the box in the corner of the room might be one of the reasons you don’t embrace it as much as you might have liked.

The many joys of Walking

20160826_1513411Walking.

It has many benefits and joys waiting for us.

Some are health benefits which are the most obvious but I’ll also be including those that are great for the mind and soul as well.

Great for thinking Got a creative project that you need to develop ideas for? Walking provides the space for brain activity. It’s also fantastic for thinking of ways to resolve problems. It does not always work in this manner all the time but it can be a great way of thinking things out. Consider taking a supportive friend with you should you need to.

I have thought of many of my ideas for my articles (including sub-points) while in this state.

One way to discover new places Sure cars and public transport are great but not everywhere has roads nor is there public transport links everywhere. Walking can provide a means of viewing different places that are off the beaten track.

Bonus points for the fact you’ll see more on the way, with walking you have the added bonus of being able to take it all in rather than seeing it flash by the car window.

If you like a peaceful existence then its a fantastic way to eliminate stresses out of life. Life throws much at us and walking can form a reprieve for those who would like a break. Walking can be akin to a “meditational state with the eyes open” depending on the locations visited, weather, views, wildlife and company you have with you.

I love the awe like state when I see new places, weather formations and varying other things that make me want to take photographs. Many of the photos for my articles are also taken on walks.

It’s another way of getting exercise Not that into the gym but want to exercise? Fed up with high fees to use the gym? Maybe walking is just the ticket. Not only is it one of the gentler forms of exercise out there perhaps second only to swimming but its free. It can provide toning effect to the legs, posterior and tummy. Many say its good for depression also.

Bored  of vegging out in front of the TV? Everyone needs a change of scene every so often. Walking is a means to getting that change of scene. It can provide means for splitting up any activity that needs a break or pause.

A way to put down Facebook and get out with nature With technology comes connectedness, and this is beneficial on many levels. However technology can take up a bigger space in our lives and is more than ever. Walking while not checking Facebook constantly can give us the separation from technology and screens in general

It’s a viable form of transport and can save you money So it depends on how far your going but if your journeys (including your commute) are small then walking is a fair option that will save you money.

How to live a life as close as possible to la dolce vita without emigrating

20160723_1934181So as many of you know, I’m incredibly keen to aid you in living a more relaxed form of lifestyle where possible. I know that in todays stressful world it’s not always possible but there are some hint and tips I’m going to share that will help those looking for this lifestyle to gain as much of it in their home country without emigrating to Italy (or emigrating at all).

So since I’ve use la dolce vita (the good life) I’ll let you into where I think some of the Italians (and Mediterranean Europeans might be onto a good thing).

Make time for passions Sure a 21st century lifestyle brings it’s known trials and tribulations, many of which we can entirely get away from even if we wanted to. However where possible try to put some time aside to focus on what ever it is that makes you happy. Whether that includes seeing friends or playing basketball.

Try not to obsess over things that will not help you excel or will only help a little. There are many things in life we really should give our unwavering care and attention to, and some we might be best of not worrying about too much. I would say more but  I have already written about it here.

Il dolce far niente is italian for enjoy doing nothing or sweet idleness. This is where Italians might be onto a good thing. A simple half an hour doing nothing particular like sitting beside the seaside or staying a bit longer to enjoy something. The ability to bask and take in something is a true gift.

Learn to appreciate the beauty of things So you might have wondered what I was talking about with the previous suggestion. The ability to find beauty (both physical and poetic) in things is what is to be admired with the doing nothing time. Anything from an architectural gem of a building or museum, maybe some artwork you’ve been dying to see for a while or simple pleasures like watching birds feeding or a sunset. Moments like these are worth taking 10 minutes to half and hour to truly savour.

A modest level of house-proudness will help you have something to feel good about. I’m not talking about any extreme variety of house-proudness, your house need’s to be one you live in and not a museum. A decent level (but not overbearing) of house-proudness will certainly give you something to admire should you wish.

Say no to bed head days,  if possible. I am suggesting this one for a fair reason. You will feel better about yourself if you at least get dressed. I dare you to try it the next time you binge watch Breaking Bad or Orange is the New Black. I’m sure you’ll prefer the results as to how you feel.

Dress well as much as humanly possible for improved confidence This is yet another I dare you to try, as I’m sure many of you will feel better and happier overall for. I’d also advise you to choose styles you know you will feel good in. Experiment with styles and colours that make you feel (new/enlivened/feminine/masculine/other) and go with a style you like as much as possible.

There are some people who make the “effort to look good even when buying a loaf of bread”, and I’d suggest these people are on to something.

Take up creative hobbies for pleasure Any type of creative hobby will play its role in helping you to relax and even meet new friends. If you like to dance, sing or paint or just about anything creative then be sure to see what options are available in your area.

Limit your Alcohol, if you drink. While I’m not suggesting going teetotal, unless that’s a choice you would like. I’m suggesting limiting to one or two drinks would be a plus should an easy and relaxed life be your thing. While not always true the Italians have a reputation for not drinking to excess. Not drinking to excess limits the severity of your hangover (if any) and any “alcohol tiredness”.

Turn off push notifications on your phone One way you can disconnect from constant phone checking and technology in general is to turn off push notifications and excess notifications in general. While I think technology is wonderful its nice to exist without the constant checking of phones, tablets etc.

Breathing exercises are fantastic for limiting stress when currently in a stressful situation in the here and now. Such exercises also work well when not in a stressful situation.

Re-sensitising in the modern age for feminine souls

20150830_191637Hello Dear Readers

I’ll be touching on reclaiming your emotional core and inner sense of being (all of it) from the perspective of a feminine of center soul.

This article is a spin-off from Renee Wade’s article but I have some other perspectives to share. I do like Renee’s site but realise some of it may work for you and some of it may not. I’m a feminine lesbian and (as an example) do not need to worry about “attracting men” Not everything the site has to offer is universally a help to every feminine soul, but I’m sure a fair share will be.

The world has changed over the generations. Nowadays women work more than ever due to the 2nd wave feminist movement. While that’s applaudable and a huge step forward the world has changed in other ways not entirely for the best.

Most feminine souls likely have to suppress their ability to use thier emotions and I’d also suggest some level of ability to connect with our inner selves.

The modern workplace often works from a masculine spectrum energy. These days “productivity, fast paced, go-go-go” and others are common words with the modern workplace. In a few generations the working world has largely become obsessed to extraordinary degrees with productivity, fast paced environments and a general go, go, go atmosphere.

There’s nothing wrong with masculine energy and its no doubt part of the balance, but this “extreme challenge” and “big go-getter” stuff is masculine.

The problem is that you can depolarize if you learn how to behave in an energy that’s not natural to you. This goes for both masculine and feminine energies. If someone depolarizes too much they might feel like a “part of them is missing” and even though some parts of their life are going entirely great (such as bank balance) they will still feel as though something (deeper) is missing that should be there.

So how do you go about re-connecting to your inner goddess energy or re-sensitise, that’s the question. While it’s not always easy there are some methods for staying “grounded” in the feminine.

Creativity is one of the first ways to reconnect with your inner sense of feminine.

Re-connecting and reliving your emotions and making an effort to look at yourself from outside yourself and sympathise with yourself, also the ability to understand what someone else is feeling and understand thier emotions through thier eyes can be an amazing gift. Not everyone can do this so its a great skill to learn or re-acquire.
Trying to maintain a mostly lighthearted and humble persona will help with feeling connected.

Watching TV shows that has a big “emotional understanding” component to it can help keep those batteries charged. This is a large reason why I love Pokémon

Dressing in a well-kept and self proud manner will also help, this might mean fewer or even no “bed head days” but it will likely feel better in the long run.

If need be consider changing job and/or career. While its nice to earn a high salary and all the perks and people looking up to you, if where it is you are just is not bringing you a sense of happiness or fulfilment then it could be an idea for a change. Even a lower paid position could potentially bring more hapiness depending on what the job entails and if your willing to accept a lower salary for enhanced satisfaction.

To feel intimately closer to your true nature is the true elixir of life.

Why I prefer to write from the heart

20160416_155700Hello Dear Readers

As many of you have probably noticed I take a strong preference to writing with intuition and heart space instead of “embarking on fact-finding missions”. Today I thought I’d share why (for the most part) it’s the preferred writing style of not only myself but plenty of other writers.

The first point that comes to mind is its my way of “finding my authenticity” and I feel it can bring more personality to a piece. It can be a great way to include previous stories and emotions relating to the stories you use as examples.

Its one of those ways to allow ideas to flow and feel at whole with the process, It can also open one up to being vulnerable at times. This can enhance authenticity and a sense of connectedness with your audience

While I’m not out to knock fact-finding I find the prospect of writing in the context of a “fact-finding mission” to be entirely daunting and a complex affair. The main problem I find is these days you can never entirely be sure what’s true with 100 percent certainty. I do partake in minor fact finding when it complements an article but I’m keen to leave the detailed and complex stuff to other people. I find I flow better when I worry less about facts and more about what I intrinsically feel.

Its one way to help lightheartedness thrive and keep negativity low. The heart does not rush to judgement in a similar way to the head. An example is if someone visited the same place for many days at a time the head would tire but the heart would find beauty in ways the head could not (most of the time). The heart also finds ways to get to the point without all the judgement and finger-pointing the fact-finding path would often use. The heart can uncover a story within a story also which can take a different path to the original story. This can also be known as “reading between the lines”
I love that all these articles are birthed by my own heart space and intuition and without that I doubt that any of these would exist at all, It’s as much of a spiritual practise as it is a non spiritual practise.

I truly believe that the heart is the stronger organ then the head when it comes to knowledge. I’ve heard the phrase “the head thinks, but the heart knows” (author unknown) and the phrase “when the head and the heart are at odds, go with the heart (author unknown) also holds true.

At the center of it this sort of writing is at the heart of my creative power

How I discovered my future as a writer – Life path part 2

20160416_155203Hello dear readers

This is a follow-up from my initial post called “Looking for a change of direction

I am writing this follow us as I honestly believe I may well have found my “career path” which can be intertwined with the “life path” also. I’m not suggesting being an article writer is for everyone but I believe the insights will be valuable to readers and the idea and process can be tweaked to fit someone elses circumstances.

I started this blog/website last month and it just feels like the right path now. I have long-held an idea of not only “bettering myself” but potentially being self-employed in some form preferably on something that I’m interested in and will last over long (or unlimited period of time).

I got my first chance of “being my own boss” while working for Avon a few years back. While I had some level of fun selling to friends and family I’m no “social butterfly” and left this after 8 months.

I went back to “day jobs” that were largely unexciting but paid the bills. Weve all been there and while there was nothing wrong with this I was easily interested in something a bit more “me” and preferably had some “creative streak” if I could help it.

Since I’m a train enthusiast I gave sincere thought to starting a railway blog. While It was a fantastic idea from a perspective I had figured you’d have to be an extreme form of rail enthusiast to be able to conjure up enough articles to make it worthwhile and attract an interested base of readers.

Another avenue of writing which potentially caught my interest for a fair while was Alternative (or Conspiracy) Research. I’m keenly interested in this and have been for a number of years. There were a few things that put me off. The first was the endless fact checking that needs to be carried out to be seen as credible by those who hold and interest for this genre. The second is there’s a lot of finger-pointing and negativity within the genere and I’d love to keep my site reasonably light-hearted where possible.

So I created this website in the latter end of June 2016. I feel that the format I have taken is the best path for myself as I feel I write the best when I am solving problems for others both in a light-hearted way and on mostly intuition and thoughts that come to me naturally. This is also exciting as I honestly don’t know what my future articles will be with exception to ones I’m on in the relative here and now, but that’s exciting in a “whats the next twist” way.

The name of this site is Pensamientos de la Reina Razonable, which means thoughts of Queen Reasonable in Spanish. The title of the site has been chosen in order to openly state that I’m here to share whats in my heart space.

I had always known I wanted to do “something I preferred” with a “creative twist” and an ability “to help society or sections of it”. Please understand it’s taken me a fair number of years to get even this far. Realisations such as these simply do not happen quickly for the vast amount of people (myself included) but anyone with a keen interest for improving on what job they have can reach this point should they be willing to embark on this journey of soul-searching. It’s a long journey with periods of despair at times but its worth it.

A key phrase I remeber is “when the head and the heart are at odds, go with the heart” (unknown). This is not only a fantastic piece of advice but the ethos of which this website is created

As for me I’m just getting started

Role Plays, the Amber Nectar of Introvert Language Exchange

20150717_161412.jpgHave you ever been in a situation where you wanted to learn a foreign language and the language exchanges just don’t cut it for you? Are you exhausted from all the endless small talk and introductions that ultimately lead nowhere? Do you also get the feeling”I would like to be challenged, even taken slightly out of my comfort zone? Do you feel that even though you love the languages you are learning you are simply “not an open channel” or are “naturally resistant” to all the small talk?

If the answer is such a profound yes then I might just have stumbled across a workaround for this, a life hack if you will.

I myself am an Introvert and can profoundly answer yes to all of those questions. The question how do I go about solving this problem has been floating around in my mind one way or another for the best part of six months. I’m pleased it has been as the key to Pandora’s box is…..

Role Plays

These are brilliant because like many people on the introvert spectrum I do not enjoy opening up to people I do not know over the internet or endless amounts of small talk. Introverts usually have a naturally reserved quality about them. A role play comes in well as a substitute as you are effectively playing a character for the purpose of learning a language (both yours and theirs) while not actually having to open up to someone you do not know well enough to open up to or want to open up to.

Bonus points for the fact a Role Play has a creative and amateur dramatic element to it.

I remember a time when I had to do one in an unemployement seminar years ago. I quite liked it.

I have tried it recently in a language exchange and I noticed my “resistance to the experience” disappeared. It was slightly annoying that it was only in English with no Spanish at all but the key point is my usual feeling of “resistance to language exchange” was nowhere to be seen.

I’d suggest that should this sound like something you would like to try or do that you state this abjectly and upfront before the exchange. Should you need to have an all or nothing proposition regarding this subject. While this may initially sound harsh I can assure you its not because I’m in the belief that it’s for the betterment that both people should be relatively compatible and neither should feel obliged to language exchange with someone who they are grossly incompatible with. So honesty truly is the best policy all around in this circumstance.

In return the partner can request that you do things a certain way for them. I remember I was asked to explain the workings of the London Underground Oyster card and the Zonal System. This could have been role played but even without a role play element there’s no inner and profound feeling of “resistance” due to the fact that it’s an external subject and is not “small talk”, introductions nor is it asking me to “open up” when I do not feel ready.

I’d also like to state that even though there’s a “serious” and “stay on task” element involved due to the creative and amateur dramatic nature it can be an enjoyable pursuit with relative ease.

The only reasonable limits are your and your partners linguistic understanding. So there’s no point saying you are “one of the lead designers of the Ariane 5 space station” if either you or your language partner simply isn’t at that level. There is no doubt that so long as neither of you go over the top both of you will receive new vocabulary and grammatical understandings in your respective languages.

One thing I have noticed as well is some other language exchangers wish to form a friendship and start meeting people face to face really early on. Should you feel this is too much for you openly say something along the lines of “For the time being I am not looking for friendship or to meet face to face at this stage but may be open to it at a later stage, the language alone is my focus for now”. This means that should you feel a spark with this person you shall be able to pursue it at a later stage should you so wish.

If any of the concepts mentioned here have proved to be a help to anyone (other than myself) then I see this article as nothing less than an outstounding success.

I am a learner of Spanish, Italian and French and one day shall write articles when the time is right for me to do so.
